Introduction

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a comprehensive statutory framework published in 2007 by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). The framework sets standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to five.

All registered early years providers will be required to use this framework from September 2008 and to complete an EYFS profile for each child at the end of academic year up to the age of five.

Early Years Foundation Stage Framework

The Department of Education has issued a statutory framework for reception and nursery classes in maintained and independent schools, day nurseries, childminders, playgroups, after school and breakfast clubs, holidays play schemes and sure start children’s centres, known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The framework sets out  legal requirements for the care of children relating to learning, development, and welfare.
